The National ELT Accreditation Scheme (NEAS) is a self-funding, non-profit, industry-based body operating independently of government and of industry ELT centres, but with strong cooperative links with government agencies and industry representative bodies.
NEAS was incorporated in May 1990 as a company with limited liability. Click here to view NEAS' Constitution.
NEAS has been providing ELT accreditation services since 1990 to universities, vocational education and training providers, secondary schools and private stand-alone ELT centres. NEAS operates with the same set of standards and criteria and applies the same operating principles to all ELT centres. NEAS also monitors the delivery of the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) across Australia through contract with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
The primary goal of NEAS is the maintenance of high levels of quality in the provision of English Language Teaching programs and services by ELT centres to the benefit of the industry as a whole and especially for students.
The purpose of the scheme is:
- to set standards of quality in the provision of ELT programs and related services
- to provide a professional judgment as to whether ELT centres meet and continue to meet those standards
In achieving our purpose, NEAS will be:
- Rigorous in its audit regime so as to sustain high levels of delivery of English language teaching.
- Supportive of the industry through the provision of external continual improvement advice to ELT centres.
- Co-operative in its dealings with industry and government representatives when working to the benefit of the industry and its key beneficiaries, the students studying English.
- Open in its willingness to learn and participate in the future of the industry and open to reviews and evaluations of its own operations.
