The Centre for English Teaching (CET) at the University of Sydney has 5 Direct Entry options. Three of these are arranged sequentially to form a comprehensive university preparation pathway over 25 weeks; the other two are short courses of 5 weeks each targeted specifically at writing or speaking skills. What makes these courses successful? The student profile? The course design? The assessment tools? The teachers’ skills? Supportive colleagues? Coordination and management? This workshop will explore the criteria that were considered in the development of the program, and examine the factors which have contributed to the success of these courses at CET. It will also provide participants with an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences, contributing to our shared international competitiveness in an increasingly challenging market.
