NEAS General Manager, Ana Bratkovic, shared the Australian and South East Asian ELT experience at a panel presentation at TESL Ontario, Canada, on 1 November 2018. The panel comprised members of QALEN and represented Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. The presentation focused on teacher qualifications required by ELT centres across the jurisdictions represented by the QALEN alliance.
The speakers were able to demonstrate the similarities in terms of qualification requirements yet highlight the unique challenges presented to teachers in their own jurisdictions. Noting the similarities in qualification requirements around the world, Ana told the audience of teachers and ELT managers, “teachers are more mobile than ever and employers everywhere are now requiring recognised specialist TESOL qualifications, even in short courses and study tours”. The TESL Ontario conference followed the annual two-day QALEN Symposium hosted by Languages Canada in Toronto.
