On 20 February 2017, Patrick Pheasant, NEAS Chief Executive Officer and Anthony McClaran, Chief Executive Officer, TEQSA met regarding a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organisations. The memorandum came into effect December 2016 and recognises the two organisations shared vision for quality.
TEQSA plays a vital role in the global quality assurance and regulation of Australia’s higher education sector – protecting the reputation of this growing, vibrant sector while safeguarding the student experience.
Through the memorandum, TEQSA recognises that participating in voluntary quality assurance endorsement, such as that offered by NEAS, can be an effective way for ELICOS providers in the higher education sector and those private providers with relationships with them to enhance ongoing education quality and demonstrate a commitment to continual improvement. As a quality assurance service with a close, ongoing face to face relationship with providers, NEAS can also provide valuable information about the industry and systemic risks to quality English language training to TEQSA.
The memorandum acknowledges an important framework for cooperation between TEQSA and NEAS, to facilitate the exchange of information and materials for both organisations. Anthony McClaran will also be presenting at the NEAS Management Conference on 11-12 May 2017 in Sydney about TEQSA’s leadership in the higher education sector.
Agreements such as the NEAS TEQSA MOU with government bodies, industry and peak body associations strengthen the recognition and value of NEAS and 225 NEAS Quality Endorsed Centres worldwide. NEAS’ commitment to quality in the English language teaching sector supports and enhances a quality teaching and learning experience for more than 3,000 teachers and 20,000 students at our members’ centres.
