NEAS is the proud sponsor of the UECA PD Fests and was delighted to be presenting at the Melbourne UECA PD Fest held at Monash College on 29 July 2017.

The day began with an excellent presentation from Professor Chi Baik from Melbourne University on her research on the international student in Australia. Professor Baik discussed her national study on the experiences of first year international students which showed that international students are reporting significant lower levels of satisfaction.

This plenary was followed by 25 sessions presented by teachers for teachers exploring the theme “Old Problems, New Solutions.” There was strong representation by NEAS endorsed colleges, with Macquarie University ELC, Deakin University, the University of Newcastle Language Centre, ICTE-UQ and Victoria University all presenting excellent workshops showcasing their strong focus on professional development.

NEAS General Manager Ana Bratkovic presented findings from NEAS’ Australia-wide and international endorsement of more than 200 centres on Quality Practices in Student Engagement.

NEAS Quality Assurance Specialist Ben Colthorpe also presented, with a thought-provoking workshop on the risks and rewards of learning style models.

NEAS CEO Patrick Pheasant ended the day with a plenary exploring some quirky management strategies such as Swimming with the Dolphin (you had to be there!).
